Beauty bloggers read up on ‘groundbreaking’ beauty products pretty much every day, but it’s not every day we find something that is actually new and innovative. However, today, at Cosmetic News Expo, I was genuinely thrilled to discover CE-Thione – Medik8’s new water-based, oil-free, potent rechargeable 15% vitamin C serum.
And when I say rechargeable, I mean rechargeable. The way CE-Thione is formulated ensures that every drop of vitamin c provides equal freshness and impact, which is truly groundbreaking given that existing vitamin C products degrade pretty quickly if they haven’t been used in a certain period of time.
The main benefits of using CE-Thione include daily antioxidant protection through the use of three powerful antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E & L-Glutathione) and prevention of skin ageing. However, the biggest plus point for me in a practical sense is that, unlike other products of this nature that leave the skin sticky post application, Medik8’s formula glides on like a hydrator, which I can verify as I tested it today and was really pleased! For me, this aspect of the product really distinguished Medik8’s topical vitamin C from any other.
I will definitely be buying this product, but will you? Have a look online at the product information here and let me know your thoughts below! xxx

I’ve always loved reading a good glossy mag to find out what’s hot in the big wide beauty world, but everyone knows the quickest route to the crème de la crème of cosmetics is via the blogosphere.
Thanks to you lovely beauty bloggers, I have seen so many amazing products lately for Spring/Summer 2013. So, to acknowledge these great finds (and fab bloggers!), I have dedicated today’s post to the products YOU introduced me to in your blog posts. As this post could potentially go on forever, I have given myself the tremendously tricky task of picking just five must-have beauty essentials. Enjoy!
What’s the product? Daniel Sandler Dual Action Make-Up Remover
Who featured it? Sheenie Shaikh, Just Nice Things
For years, I used face wipes to remove my make-up, but a few months ago I decided that enough was enough – I was spending so much money too often on a product that did nothing spectacular for my skin. So I decided to move on to a thinner liquid make-up remover and buy cotton wool pads to go along with it, and it has been so much better for my skin. That’s why I am excited about this perfect potential purchase – a dual make-up remover from the highly-acclaimed Daniel Sandler. What’s not to love?
The 120ml bottle costs £15.

What’s the product? Bumble and Bumble Deep Conditioner
Who featured it? Adrienne, The Sunday Girl
I’m always sceptical when it comes to deep conditioners – in the past I have been a sucker for marketing hype and haven’t seen a return on the majority of my hair care investments. However, because Adrienne has thick hair like me, I really trust that this product could be one to beat.
Plus, I have heard amazing things about Bumble and Bumble, but am ashamed to admit I have never tried anything! So I think you’ll find that’s at least two good reasons why I need this product in my life.
The full-size bottle (150ml) costs £21.50, but there’s a smaller version (50ml) for £9.50.

What’s the product? KIKO Glamorous Eye Pencil
Who featured it? Grace, All that Slap
Not only do I love a high-quality, pigmented eye pencil, but also I adore midnight blue. That’s why I completely fell in love with Kiko Cosmetics’ Glamorous Eye Pencils when I saw them on Grace’s blog last week. Retailing at only £4.90 each, these pencils are a really beautiful bargain.

What’s the product? Maybelline Baby Lips
Who featured it? Jane, British Beauty Blogger
Jane is always at the top of her game when it comes to what’s new and worth buying. One of the most exciting products I have seen on her blog lately is Maybelline Baby Lips. Originally from the US, Baby Lips is now going to be launched in the UK (much to many beauty bloggers’ delight). It’s available in several shades, has a sun protection factor of 20, and is said to provide 8 hours of moisture and rejuvenation.
See where I discovered this range here on Jane’s blog.
What’s the product? Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder
Who featured it? Amelia Liana, Liana Beauty
If I had to pick one product that screams Spring/Summer, it would be this uber pretty Bobbi Brown brightening powder. Formulated with mulberry, grape and brightening plant extracts, the powder illuminates the skin while also maintaining a natural effect.
At £40, it is quite expensive, but the fact that it’s so special kind of justifies the cost.
You can check out Amelia’s full post here.

Go on – feast your eyes on this fabulous brush set. I want to, you want to, we all want to! In fact, I don’t think there’s a single b-blogger who wouldn’t want to know more about this tres unique safari-themed brush set from Japonesque. It’s so different to the usual block colour brushes we are used to, and it really does intrigue me.
Having said that, is the aesthetic of a product more important than how it works and its quality? Is it a case of don’t judge a brush book by its cover?
In the name of rare rational beauty shopping (because the two can go together?!), I teamed up with one of my favourite b-bloggers Callie Rose from cllrs.blogspot.co.uk to answer the all important question: do I need or want this product?
Here’s what Callie had to say about the Japonesque Safari Chic Brush set:
This gorgeous little set contains 3 different brushes to help you complete your desired look. Contains: Safari Chis Powder Brush for blending blusher and bronzing powder, Safari Chic Shadow Brush for shading and diffusing shadow over the eyelid and Safari Chic Crease Brush for creating depth and drama by smudging pigment along the socket line.
Does Callie want or need this product?
NEED: I need some new eyeshadow brushes as the one that I’m currently using is the brush that came with my Naked 2 palette. It does the job okay, but I’ve had it that long that it is falling apart. I usually put shadow into the crease of my eye to add that extra effect. I like having big dramatic eyes, so the crease brush would be perfect.
WANT: I suppose they could wait as I already have a powder brush, so don’t need the full set – but just look at them! They’re so pretty! And the price is within my budget (well, maybe after Lent as I’m on a spending ban). Not only are the brushes vegan-friendly and made with the highest quality synthetic material, they also come in a a micro-fibre travel case so they’re always on hand. If it wasn’t lent, I’d buy them now.
Do I want or need this product?
NEED: It doesn’t take a beauty genius to see how incredible these brushes look. And as I am in an eye make-up phase lately, the safari brush set would make a great addition to my ever-growing palette and mono shadow collection. Another thing is that my biggest problem with eye looks is creases – those damn things always get in the way of a good look! So I need a good crease brush in my life. I also really love that all three brushes have been designed with contouring in mind. Overall, I think it’s priced well for a high-quality, vegan-friendly set.
WANT: If I’m really honest, I do have a great powder and eyeshadow brush already, so could my money be better spent elsewhere? For £28 I could indulge in several items and mix and match lips, eyes and cheeks. But it’s better to spend money on quality beauty essentials than splurge it on 15 purple eyeshadows when you only need 5 (OK maybe 10…). My biggest problem with spending money on beauty is that I don’t make enough long-term investments, so this a good place to start!
So, what’s the overall verdict?
We both need this ultra unique brush set.
Natasha says: Let’s face it – we didn’t need much convincing! All we had to do is look at it to know how special it is. The truth is there is nothing else like it, and for that reason we just have to have it!
Callie says: Personally, I think these babies are worth buying. They’ll be going onto my wishlist until the end of Lent when I shall purchase them. What’s not to love about them? They are vegan-friendly, travel-friendly, and eye-friendly (as in they look amazing with their safari print). Well worth the £28!
What do you think? Would you have made the same decision?
P.S If you would like to write a need vs want post with me, tweet me @shotofbeauty or send me an email at email@example.com. Why not tweet Callie at @catdicko also and have a look at her blog?
Filed under: Bath and body | Tags: bath and body, beauty, bomb cosmetics
There’s no doubt about it – it is FREEZING! All I can think about to keep me warm is a relaxing hot soak in the tub, so there was no better time than monday night to try out Bomb Cosmetics’ First Love Bath Mallow – one of the gorgeous bath and body goodies from my recent Bomb Cosmetics Haul (see post here).
This sweet, soft bath mallow is the cutest thing in the world. Made in the design of a cupcake, it looks good enough to eat and feels as soft as buttercream. By looking at it and feeling its texture, I got the feeling it would be a rich, slow-melting product, which is exactly what it has been described as. It gets 10/10 in terms of product aesthetics!
The product packaging advises you to run a warm bath and drop this in while the tub is filling up, so I did exactly that and took a quick pic before the big drop (above).
Admittedly, at first, I was a bit disappointed – I expected to see a bath full of candy pink and sky blue waves, but it was white instead. Unfortunately, the visual effect of the mallow hitting the water was not quite what I was expecting, but I think this sort of product is more about the moisturising effects it has on the skin, and it looked pretty dreamy to me. Maybe the problem is that I am so used to ‘ballistics’ and so was looking for a bigger bang, if you see what I mean?
Although I was confused initially, once I actually got into the bath it was so creamy and gorgeous. It slowly melted away for a long time, which I liked, and its scent was subtle and relaxing.
So, overall, for a bath product of this size, I was impressed with the results and would like to try the bath mallows again. It wouldn’t be a ‘must have’ repurchase, but I think it’s great for a special treat after a long, cold day with dehydrated skin!
Would you try this product? What’s your favourite bath treat? xxx

Valentine’s day is around the corner, which means one thing – it’s time to pucker up and perfect that pout. So, in the name of love and beauty inspiration, here’s five lipsticks I am lusting over at the moment…
1/Illamasqua I’mperfection Lipstick in Immodest (£16)
The closest I’mperfection can get to perfection – this highly-pigmented matte-effect lipstick from Illamasqua is a real steal. It’s vivid, long-lasting and the perfect shade for Spring/Summer 2013.
2/Topshop Lips Velvet in Tease (£8)
This sweet lipstick from Topshop would be perfect for a daytime Valentine’s date. I love these lipsticks – they aren’t too expensive and every shade is so pretty. It is moisturising and nourishing and has a matte finish. You could use this all year round for work and play and gloss it up with a clear lip glass for some extra zing.
3/Aerin Lipstick in Tulip (£24)
Based on spring flowers, this signature lipstick from Aerin not only looks beautiful, but also has a subtle rose scent, making each application a sensory experience. The product epitomises Spring and is likely to be a big hit this season. I cannot tell you how much I want this one!
4/Lancôme Baume In Love Lipbalm in Sugar Rose (£20)
I’ve had my eye on this translucent candy pink balm ever since it launched earlier this year. It has a comforting formula and is made with shea butter to moisturise the lips all year round.
5/Burberry Beauty Lip Velvet in Military Red (£22.50)
This lipstick is stunning. From the packaging to the design of the lipstick itself (and the amazing sultry red colour), it really does tick all boxes. It’s a classic red lipstick inspired by ‘opulent English fabrics’ and is made to moisturise, hydrate and protect.
What lip colour will you be wearing this valentine’s day? xxx
