Here’s the products YOU brought into my life

I’ve always loved reading a good glossy mag to find out what’s hot in the big wide beauty world, but everyone knows the quickest route to the crème de la crème of cosmetics is via the blogosphere.

Thanks to you lovely beauty bloggers, I have seen so many amazing products lately for Spring/Summer 2013. So, to acknowledge these great finds (and fab bloggers!), I have dedicated today’s post to the products YOU introduced me to in your blog posts. As this post could potentially go on forever, I have given myself the tremendously tricky task of picking just five must-have beauty essentials. Enjoy!

ONE
What’s the product? Daniel Sandler Dual Action Make-Up Remover
Who featured it? Sheenie Shaikh, Just Nice Things

xxxxx

For years, I used face wipes to remove my make-up, but a few months ago I decided that enough was enough – I was spending so much money too often on a product that did nothing spectacular for my skin. So I decided to move on to a thinner liquid make-up remover and buy cotton wool pads to go along with it, and it has been so much better for my skin. That’s why I am excited about this perfect potential purchase – a dual make-up remover from the highly-acclaimed Daniel Sandler. What’s not to love?

The 120ml bottle costs £15.

Read Sheenie’s full product review here.

TWO
What’s the product? Bumble and Bumble Deep Conditioner
Who featured it? Adrienne, The Sunday Girl

xxxx

I’m always sceptical when it comes to deep conditioners – in the past I have been a sucker for marketing hype and haven’t seen a return on the majority of my hair care investments. However, because Adrienne has thick hair like me, I really trust that this product could be one to beat.

Plus, I have heard amazing things about Bumble and Bumble, but am ashamed to admit I have never tried anything! So I think you’ll find that’s at least two good reasons why I need this product in my life.

The full-size bottle (150ml) costs £21.50, but there’s a smaller version (50ml) for £9.50.

Read The Sunday Girl’s full review here.

THREE
What’s the product? KIKO Glamorous Eye Pencil
Who featured it? Grace, All that Slap

xxxxx

Not only do I love a high-quality, pigmented eye pencil, but also I adore midnight blue. That’s why I completely fell in love with Kiko Cosmetics’ Glamorous Eye Pencils when I saw them on Grace’s blog last week. Retailing at only £4.90 each, these pencils are a really beautiful bargain.

Read Grace’s full review here.

FOUR
What’s the product? Maybelline Baby Lips
Who featured it? Jane, British Beauty Blogger

xxxx

Jane is always at the top of her game when it comes to what’s new and worth buying. One of the most exciting products I have seen on her blog lately is Maybelline Baby Lips. Originally from the US, Baby Lips is now going to be launched in the UK (much to many beauty bloggers’ delight). It’s available in several shades, has a sun protection factor of 20, and is said to provide 8 hours of moisture and rejuvenation.

See where I discovered this range here on Jane’s blog.

FIVE
What’s the product? Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder
Who featured it? Amelia Liana, Liana Beauty

xxxxx

If I had to pick one product that screams Spring/Summer, it would be this uber pretty Bobbi Brown brightening powder. Formulated with mulberry, grape and brightening plant extracts, the powder illuminates the skin while also maintaining a natural effect.

At £40, it is quite expensive, but the fact that it’s so special kind of justifies the cost.

You can check out Amelia’s full post here.

Do you have any of these products already? What do you think of them? xxx

February Glossybox: Valentine’s Day Edition

Top view of the February Glossybox

I was a happy lady this morning, as the first thing I saw when I came downstairs was my brand new shiny Glossybox! This month’s ‘theme’ is valentine’s day, as you can tell by the pretty pink design and the product information leaflet below saying ‘will you be ours?’. And judging by what’s in the box this month, I will be theirs forever!

xxx

xxx

Glossybox editorial

The idea behind this month’s box is that, whatever you are doing and whoever you are with, you will be head over heels in love with this selection of products.

So let’s look inside the box…

xxx

Inside the Glossybox

xxx

Amazing product selection in the box

Overall, I am really pleased with the production selection in this edition. Although it has lots of pretty and pink bits, it also has a lovely creamy eyeshadow duo and a coffee-shade lipstick, so I feel Glossybox has managed to cater to everyone.

Inside my box is an Anatomicals Your Nose Smells Rose Body Cleanser (150ml), a Limited Edition Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft Cream (30ml), a Helen E Cosmetics Moisturising Lipstick in Cafe au Lait, a Model Co Eyeshadow Duo in Bronzed Goddess and a Micabella Cosmetics Mineral Blush Powder in Terra Cotta.

Product description

Ingredients

I love the classic candy pink and canary yellow combination on Anatomicals’ packaging. Above you can see the product from the front, its ingredients (paraben-free formula = thumbs up) and the ever-amusing product description. I love a brand with personality!

xxxx

The gel inside the bottle

And here is the cleanser from inside the bottle. The first thing I thought was that it smelled like turkish delight, which I like. It’s quite a thick pink formula and so I imagine it would spread well in the shower.

It costs £5 for 300ml.

2/Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft Cream

xxxx

Docteur Renaud Limited Edition Raspberry Soft Cream

xxx

What’s inside the box

I haven’t tried anything from this brand before and I do love a limited edition product. Also, as I have mentioned before, I love the smell and taste of raspberry, and this soft cream includes four raspberry extracts.

xxxx

Product info and ingredients on the back of the box

xxxx

Product info on the dispenser

Docteur Renaud’s soft cream is designed to hydrate, moisturise and comfort the skin in the winter months. It is made with patented phyto-endorphins which boost cell activity and is suitable for all skin types.

xxxx

On the hand

xxx

Rubbed into the hand

In terms of consistency, the cream is thick and white. It smells lovely, but I think it is a bit too heavy duty for my skin. It takes quite a while to rub it in properly, and as you can see above you have to buff it into the skin a bit to avoid a white shimmery effect.

This one costs £25 for 50ml.

3/Helen E Cosmetics Moisturising Lipstick in Cafe au Lait

xxxx

Helen E Cosmetics Cafe au Lait Lipstick

xxx

Cafe au Lait label

I like the simplistic silvery packaging, but unfortunately the shade isn’t really for me. I’m not generally a fan of brown lipsticks as I prefer brighter colours like red and pink, but I do rate Glossybox for including something different.

xxx

First look

xxx

Swatched

The colour is quite golden and brown and I think you need to build it a fair bit to get a solid colour. It costs £8 for 3.5g.

4/Model Co Eyeshadow Duo in Bronzed Goddess

xxx

Model Co Eyeshadow Duo

xxx

Creamy gold and brown duo

This is more like it; although I don’t do golden brown for my lips, I definitely do for my eyes, and this duo is really pretty for day and night looks. The shadows are creamy too, which I like, although it might mean you have to manage any creases early on.

xxx

Swatched

The gold is really nice and the brown would be great to add in for a night look. I reckon you could mix and match and use the gold to highlight the inner corners of the eyes.

The duo costs £18 for 3 x 2.35g.

5/Micabella Cosmetics Mineral Blush Powder (Terra Cotta)

xxxx

MICA Bella Cosmetics Mineral Blush

xxxx

In Terra Cotta

The final beauty item in the box is a pretty pink mineral blush powder from Micabella Cosmetics. I have never heard of this brand, but I do prefer powder blushes and would like to try a mineral one. You can add a darker colour to the cheeks too to contour the cheekbones. Another day and night staple – it’s perfect for v day.

The full size blush costs £34.95 for 9g.

And last but not least is this super sweet candy heart lolly as a gift from Glossybox – how sweet!

xxxx

How cute is this lolly!

Happy valentine’s day beauty bloggers! xxx

Anti-valentines day beauty buys
February 5, 2013, 1:55 pm
Filed under: Bath and body, Eyes, Face, Hair, Lips, Make-up, Perfume, Skin care | Tags: , , , ,

A little blackbird told me that not everyone likes Valentines day. That’s right, whereas for some the 14th of February is a day to cuddle up and buy too many roses, others just want to make it a regular day and/or throw several darts at pictures of their exes.

So, if you are an occasional dart thrower who is anti-valentines day, then this post is for you. Get rid of all those pink and red rosy florals and replace them with these beauty buys fit for a vixen. You know you can’t resist vampy lips and fierce eyes, so let’s start now…

Anti-Valentines Day Beauty Buy No. 1: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil (Absolutely It)

xxx

Very vampy!

I just love me some purple lips and this one is perfect as a standout look. It’s a lip liner but I reckon this would look great for all over definition. Prep with a lip balm, dab your lips to remove the shine and layer the colour on gradually. Blot it and do it again. Then you will be ready to tell valentines day where to go! It costs £14 for 1.2g.

Anti-Valentines Day Beauty Buy No. 2: Elemis Devils Mint Body Scrub

xxx

Minty fresh

Awaken your senses with this seriously minty body scrub from Elemis (£26, 150ml). With sea plant particles, devils apron seaweed and and peppermint essential oil, you will feel so revitalised that you will forget what day it is!

Anti-Valentines Day Beauty Buy No. 3: Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau De Parfum

xxxx

Luscious ingredients in this classic Tom Ford scent

I LOVE TOM FORD. Just saying. The Black Orchid Eau De Parfum is rather expensive, costing between £48 and £95, but it’s absolutely gorgeous. The fragrance is a blend of black truffle, ylang, blackcurrant and bergamot. There is also a slight hint of vanilla to sweeten the deal.

What’s more, if you buy it with a Debenhams beauty card you can get lots of money off future beauty buys, which has really come in handy for me in the past.

Anti-Valentines Day Beauty Buy No. 4: Urban Decay Limited Edition Build Your Own Palette, OZ Theodora

xxxx

Wonderful wizardry…

I’ll admit it, I am a Glinda type of girl, but for those on an anti-valentines day mission the Urban Decay Theodora Palette (£35) is perfect. Mix the black and gold for a shimmery smoky look or go for double green and mix and match. Or scrap that and bust out red vixen lips :).

Anti-Valentines Day Beauty Buy No. 5: Catwalk Sleek Mystique Haute Iron Spray

xxxx

Red hot glamour

Just because you don’t feel any love for valentines day doesn’t mean your hair should be neglected too. Protect it from the heat when styling with this glam iron heat spray (£9.29, 200ml).

Superdry’s new affordable luxuries launch tomorrow

The wait is over (well, almost) for the brand spanking new beauty collection by Superdry, and I am SO excited. Ever since I caught a glimpse of the brand’s new cosmetics range in the latest edition of Company magazine, I have been waiting patiently to try a bit of everything.

And I must love it, because I want the make-up brushes more than the make-up, which is very rare! My ultimate Superdry Beauty must-have product is the hot pink Kabuki Brush (£14.00), which has been inspired by Japanese theatrical make-up rituals. Superdry claims it has soft synthetic hairs and is recommended for use with bronzer and blusher, as it blends and contours.

I need it as of yesterday – it is so different to all the other brushes out there of this kind, it just looks amazing and I love the wooden handle too. It has simple clear plastic packaging, which I think is cute and well-suited to the brand.

If the hot pink brush is a bit too ‘out there’ for you, you will be pleased to know that there is also a black one.

Superdry Beauty - Kabuki Brush - PinkSuperdry Beauty - Kabuki Brush - Pink - PackagingNext on my wishlist is the basic but bloody brilliant Jet Black Eye Marker (£8). Designed to create precision lines, the liner is non-smudging, which would be a bonus I reckon. However, I think I would have to see it to believe it, as I have a tendency to smudge my liquid liner!

Superdry Beauty - Eye Marker - BlackAlso in the make-up range there is the super cute ballerina-esque Pearled Pink Highlighter (£12). It’s made to suit all skin types and can be used with foundation to create a dewy complexion. Use on the cheeks and browbones.

Superdry HighlighterI also love this funky multi-season Grape/Sunflower Eye Shadow Duo (£9.50). Out of all the different combos, this one caught my eye as I see it as two different looks, so you could have a subtle gold one day and a deep purple the next. It’s a highly pigmented product and can be used wet to create a different look.

Superdry Beauty - Eye Shadow Duo - Grape, Sunflower

Apparently 1000 lipsticks isn’t enough, so of course I had to find one I liked from the range. Lip Paint in Electric Pink (£8) is a great shade for S/S 2013 and a real eye brightener. It’s highly pigmented and non-drying.

Superdry Beauty - Lip Paint - Electric PinkIn this cold climate we seem to be having at the moment, I always have a lip balm at hand, so I was really pleased to hear about the non-greasy, moisturising Peppermint Lip Fix (£6). I love mint in lip products; as well as having a great smoothing effect, it also smells and feels uber fresh. From the packaging, I reckon it is quite rich as well – so you will get more for your money.

Superdry Beauty - Lip Fix - PeppermintLast but not least are these beauty accessories for daily use. I love the wipe clean PVC Turquoise Neon Beauty Bag (£10) for my make-up or skin care products and also the silicone-covered Lime Mirror (£5) to carry around in my bag for those last-minute touch-ups!

Pay day = pretty things
January 27, 2013, 2:32 pm

There comes a time when a girl has to step out of the blogosphere and explore the big wide world of beauty counters. Yep, pay day has arrived, and I couldn’t wait to share my new things with you. I am also waiting for some other products to be delivered, so watch out for those throughout the week.

The first stop on my list was Debenhams’ beauty hall. I had a quick look around and debated going to the Chanel, Dior and Clinique counters, but that all changed when I fixed my eyes on Guerlain’s display and saw the new Meteorites Perles. I must confess, I had never tried products from this brand before, but being a lover of all things beautiful, I love trying what’s new, and so made my way over to the advisor and had my entire face made over.

xxxx

Volume, curls and jet black drama

Purchase number one at Guerlain was the new Maxi Lash Mascara (£22), which focuses on creating volume and curls. I loved the gold packaging and the length of the brush. Each application works wonders to brighten the eyes and lovely curls can be seen on the top and bottom lashes. Will see how I get on with this one and report back!

xxxx

Love this gold packaging – it’s so classy

Of course, I couldn’t just buy one thing. Everyone who has been following my blog knows I have been on the hunt for a new foundation. Well, let me tell you, it was love at first sight when I tried Parure de Lumiere Cream Foundation (£38.50 for 30ml) in 02 Beige Claire. I loved that it was made for extra comfort. Originally, I thought the fluid version would be better, as it promised more coverage – however, on my skin, it looked too thin and dry for me. I just LOVE this foundation.

xxxx

In the box…

xxx

Out of the box….

My next stop was Boots, where I rushed over to grab the new Rimmel London Apocalips (£5.99 for 5 ml). I just love colour of the Apocoliptic one. It reminds me of the height of spring and it would be amazing to have matching nails and blush with this. I just had to have one!

photo 5

This one is gonna start a beauty revolution!

My final purchase was an unexpected one, as I bought it after having a biosculpture gel manicure at my local beauty salon Utopia. After my manicure, the therapist used OPI’s Avojuice Skin Quencher in Ginger Lily to massage and moisturise my hands, and I just loved the smell and feel of it, so bought one in Cran & Berry to take home with me. I would definitely recommend this gorgeous hand cream for anyone who loves fruity fragrances. You can get the Ginger Lily one at Lena White for a reduced price of £7 here.

xxxx

Very berry

So that’s it for now, but I have plenty of new bits coming this week, along with reviews of some new samples I will be getting, so watch this space!

Etsy: homemade beauty heaven
January 24, 2013, 2:47 pm
Filed under: Accessories, Bath and body, Eyes, Face, Hair, Lips, Make-up, Nails, Skin care | Tags: , , , , , , ,

I’ve always admired Etsy for its quirky jewellery ranges and gifts, but I have never taken the time to look at its beauty offerings – until now. As soon as I browsed the beauty section, the inevitable happened; I clicked favourite on almost everything I saw, including products that I would never usually consider (like blue and green lipsticks?!).

Quite frankly, the things I found were just too amazing to keep to myself, and so I couldn’t wait to do my next blog post and share them with you. So here’s my top 10 favourite products so far. Let me know if you make any impromptu purchases – I probably will (on pay day of course!).

1/Rose Wood Make-Up Brushes, £19.44, MICUSTOMCRAFTS

il_570xN.415247954_qbzp

Little, large and lovely

I love a good make-up brush, so I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this gorgeous honduran rose wood pairing. They are a little pricy, but any good make-up brush will always be a bit more expensive than you would expect, and these two just ooze high quality and class.

Buy them here (includes shipping).

2/True Green Eyeshadow Natural Mineral Make-Up, £3.24, Lovemyskincosmetics

xxxx

Beautiful jade green mineral eyeshadow

Hazel eyes love green eyeshadows, especially those that are jade in tone, so I know this colour would be great for me. I already have a MAC pencil eyeliner in this foresty shade, but it would be good to alternate with the eyeshadow and possibly add a thin line of black liquid eyeliner to make my lashes pop. Great price for a natural product.

Buy it here

3/Hair Chalk (Temporary Colour Pastels), £2.59, Sharee Boutique

il_570xN.364804735_234t

Great for a temporary style switch up!

I just love the rainbow tips hair trend that is around at the moment. Although I have brown hair, i think it makes blonde hair look fab and love the look, so I had to share it with you! If anyone know how these colours can look good on dark hair, I am all for a learning curve! Good price for a multi-use product and easy to wash out for those looking for a quick style fix! Buy it here.

4/Medusa Opaque Matte Lipstick, £4.53, Impulse Cosmetics

xxxxx

Temptress, here I come

The first thing that struck me with this product is the finish of the colour and how good the matte effect was. I also loved that it was called Medusa as I thought it could bring out the siren in everyone. Very good price and the shop owner claims it is creamy and moisturising, which it would definitely need to be to maintain a matte effect. I reckon it’s worth a try, or two! Buy it here.

5/Indigo Blue Liquid Eyeliner, £5.51, MilkFancy

xxxxxx

WOW.

I’ve never tried a gel eyeliner before but I love the idea of choosing different colours to suit my mood and having the freedom to be a bit more creative. Having dark hair and hazel eyes, I can get away with using strong colours on my eyes and lips (not at the same time though, obv), and so this shade of blue is totally perfect. Buy it here.

6/Make-Up Bag in Ecru and Black Natural Coloured Weave, £16, Olganna

xxxxx

Neutral and practical make-up bag

It took me a while to find this make-up bag as I had to skip through all the floral, black and bright-coloured ones, but then I came across this beautiful and practical everyday nude bag and I really love it. There are plenty of pockets for brushes and products and the price indicates it is made with quality fabrics. I definitely want this. Buy it here

7/Cinnamon Bun Sugar Scrub, £6.80, SunKidGifts

il_570xN.378138034_6rl6

yum yum yum

Don’t worry, you did read that right – CINNAMON BUN BODY SCRUB. I can smell and taste it already. Looks like brown sugar – I want it bad! Buy it here

8/Mini Dragonfly Glitter Nail Polish, £1.90, HitPolish

xxx

Under the sea…

Completely love the mermaid look that is trending at the moment and using this nail polish is a quick way to join the party. Either lay a coat on top of a block colour or layer it for the ultimate deep blue sea experience. Fab price and worth a try. Buy it here

9/Coconut Cabana Whipped Sugar Scrub, £6.48, BungalowBathBody

xxxx

I’m taking mine to the beach, pronto!

This is summer all over and would be perfect to take away on holiday. It looks like pina colada ice cream and I bet it smells fantastic. I love a good sugar scrub. Buy it here

10/Moroccan Red Clay Facial Beauty Mask, £11.66, The Soap Opera Soaps

il_570xN.364244743_4s0o

Pure and simple spa-like goodness

There’s something about clay that will always woo beauty lovers. This product would be perfect for a home spa day and it packs an extra punch with the argan oil included. I’m really intrigued by this one – try it! Buy it here

New in from ASOS, Feel Unique and Debenhams
January 21, 2013, 2:29 pm
Filed under: Bath and body, Eyes, Hair, Lips, Nails, Perfume, Skin care | Tags: , , ,

Apparently it’s ‘Blue Monday’ today, but I reckon it’s ‘Beauty Monday’ (as if every day isn’t a beauty day!), so have searched the web for the best new buys to hit the shelves.

Top of my list from ASOS this week is the Limited Edition L’Occitane Happy Hands Trio Collection (£20 for 3x30ml), Cowshed Perfume Oil Roll-On in Wild Cow (£18 for 10ml) and the Lord & Berry ASOS Exclusive Lipcrayon & Gloss (£15). I’ve heard many beauty lovers rave about L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Hand Cream, so I was excited to see three fresh, limited edition offerings. Mango Flower instantly caught my eye. On to the Cowshed roll-on, I love this brand; I think the fragrances are so unique and really do awaken the senses. I also love the smell of the hand washes and lotions, so it’s great to have the option to wear the different ‘cows’ as signature scents. On first inspection, I have to say that £18 is a little pricey for 10ml, but as oils are much stronger than your average perfume, it may just offer enough to justify its cost. Then, finally, the Lord & Berry ASOS exclusive in fire looks rather tempting – I like the colour and the gloss + crayon combo – it definitely intrigues me enough to make me want to try it.

Feel Unique also has some great new additions to offer beauty addicts. My favourite products are Rebel Nails’ Nail Wraps in French Floral White Tips (£7.99 for 16 wraps) and Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain L’Extrait in Paresse or Luxure (£29.50 for 6ml). I instantly felt excited for spring when I saw these nail wraps – imagine them with a cute pastel dress and summery wedges – just the image I need to remind me of sunnier times to come! The new lip product from Guerlain is so rich in its tone and effect. I just don’t know what colour to try first!

Debenhams really does have some amazing products on its new arrivals section at the moment. Just look at Lancôme’s Baume in Love Lip Balm in Sugar Rose and A la Folie Cherry (£20) and also its Ombre In Love Eyeshadow in Violette Candy. These products ooze pastel power and will set all beauty bloggers up nicely for S/S 2013.
